“Ridiculously ambitious” are two words that have been used to describe Dr. Justin Borevitz’s approach to solving the climate crisis. But when “ridiculously ambitious” came as the reason for a grant proposal being rejected, we wondered how can we can help people understand the urgency and scale of our climate crisis, and that we must go all out with our efforts to address it. SOLUTION Everything depends on how we think of our own potential and how we participate in setting the status quo. Below are excerpts from This Is Ambition, a book I designed and co-authored with Dr. Justin Borevitz. This mini book talks about cultural revolutions started by individuals, illustrates the scale of climate change, and explains what we can do to set a higher standard than sustainability. I created illustrations that describe climate change metrics in more relatable analogies. Read the full text here. |
OPPORTUNITY
The Borevitz Lab is a team of plant scientists who use cutting-edge technologies to develop gene-based solutions for landscape issues. With its expanding production of digital media, the group needed a logo to convey its work themes while being distinctive at any scale—from smartphones to auditorium presentation screens. SOLUTION I designed a logo inspired by computer motherboards and forest trees, representing the lab’s research on natural systems using technological tools. The logo shows trees in different growth stages supporting each other, representing the lab’s inclusive, collaborative spirit. The shape of the B mimics the shape of a memory card or computer chip. I also produced a logo usage guidance document. |
