Curated samples: Outlier

Hello, Outlier team! I'm a graphic designer and writer, and former colleague of Wes Kao from our days at Seth Godin Productions.

I helped to launch and lead four sessions of The Marketing Seminar with Seth Godin in 2017, recruiting more than 4500 professionals in 9 months. I designed print and digital assets (both graphics and writing) used throughout the customer experience.

Currently I'm an independent contractor selectively seeking new contract and full-time opportunities. Could there be a fit?

Please poke around everywhere on this site, but below are a few items that may be of particular interest to you. I'd love to learn more about your needs and how I can help!

Warmly,
Maya

Promo video for The Marketing Seminar
PROBLEM
Most customers want to know what an experience is like and whether it works before buying.
We were sprinting towards launch day for the next session of The Marketing Seminar and wanted to address these concerns quickly and effectively.

SOLUTION
In one flurry of a weekend, I designed, produced, and edited a short video (in Premiere Pro) to help prospective students decide if The Marketing Seminar is right for them. It provides samples of the seminar experience and numerous testimonials from students.

Project summary pitch for $100M grant proposal
PROBLEM
Climate change is a complicated issue to address, but the Borevitz Lab has an approach and a global network. Their solution needed to be summarized in less than 90 seconds to stand a chance in the MacArthur Foundation's $100M 100&Change grant review.

SOLUTION
Working with a rush timeline, very limited footage, and an audio recording off a Skype call, I designed, produced, and edited a this short pitch summary video in Premiere Pro as part of the grant application.

I also edited an interview feature that was included as supporting material for our application, cutting together a highly meandering one-hour interview and adding in B-roll.

Results: We made it to the next review round and are waiting for news!

Social media cards for marketing The Marketing Seminar
PROBLEM
We wanted to reach new customers and build buzz around our program, but the social media environment is noisy and cluttered.

SOLUTION
I proposed and created a set of template options for quick and easy social media cards that are simple, bold, and on-brand.

Supplemental learning materials for The Marketing Seminar (excerpts)
PROBLEM
An online course has many conveniences, but there's nothing quite like having some downloadable, printable media to use along the way and keep after the program is over.

SOLUTION
I designed a variety of supplemental assets for print and/or download, including this annotated vocabulary list and activity book. I also made certificates and posters.

Exploratory work sample for Grammarly
Grammarly users will recognize that green highlighting that suggests how to rephrase words to be more concise. This was an exploratory project I created that applied aspects of their branding.

I used a combination of After Effects (for the animations) and Illustrator (for the patterns). I mocked up the result as an Instagram post and drafted the social media copy.
